Holiday Window Decor

from Arthur's Home Magazine, 1890

Victorian window

Windows afford many opportunities for artistic and elegant decorative skills in holiday decorating. This design is an example of draping in gold-colored silk or white Burmese muslin, with the edge being fringed with gold tinsel balls. The drapery is tied at the center, at the corners, and once again below, as the sketch indicates, by tinsel cords and balls. The addition of palm leaves and pampas grass as ornamentation complete the tout ensemble. If the tint of the walls is possibly pale blue or green, then the ribbons, fairy lights, and brackets will be pale blue or green accordingly, and the general effect could not fail to be pleasing in its simplicity and harmony.
