This charming wide brim hat from the early 20th century is made of natural color straw edged with a narrow band of black velvet. The crown of the large hat is decorated with a five inch wide black silk ribbon band and ornamented with a huge black silk ribbon bow. The bow is wired to stand upright while the edge of the brim features a twisted band of wide straw “rope”.
The crown of this wide brim hat is placed off center and is two inches high and seven inches in diameter. The hat itself is fifteen inches in diameter. The underside of the brim is decorated with the same straw “rope” on one side and a strip of black velvet ribbon on the other side of the wide brim hat.
During the first years of the 1920s, the wide brim hat style of the Edwardian era continued to be chic. A fine woven black straw hat features a deep crown worn so low it just about covers the eyebrows. The very wide drooping brim drops dramatically at both sides and is trimmed with narrow satin ribbon. Large floppy pink petal flowers are nonchalantly arranged around the brim.
