"Place
a lace cover or one of drawn-work, circular in shape, on a round
table, and a block of ice draped with smilax and holly in the center.
A Japanese umbrella edged with lanterns at intervals and a fanciful
Japanese doll may ornament the center. In preparing the ice for
table decoration choose a square block; chip in the center a hollow;
after laying a napkin in a silver dish, place the ice upon it and
cover the dish with greens, filling the cavity with flowers."
