Victorian Bonnet

Victorian Bonnet

During the 19th century, women wore sunbonnets while gardening to protect their complexion and eyes from the sun. This very pretty 19th century sunbonnet has a seven inch flat-plaited straw brim with a ruffle framing the face. The bonnet is lined and trimmed with a light weight organdy fabric. The color was originally a bright pink (you can see it deep in the seams) but has faded evenly to a dark peach color. The same fabric is used to form the very full poof to the back. There is a six inch fabric curtain at the back and five inch wide matching ties to fasten beneath the chin.
