In the late 19th century, tin ceilings
were advertised as ornamental and fireproof. The tin ceiling tiles were said to make a neat
and economical finish and could be easily applied in new buildings and
over old plaster. A variety of designs and tin ceiling patterns were available for churches,
halls, theaters, schools, stores and offices.
