Since 1837, the masterpieces of Tiffany & Company have defined style and have become part of society’s important moments. Edward Chandler Moore ran the silver department at Tiffany & Co. from the early 1850s and oversaw the development of one of the most important silversmith firms ever. For over 170 years Tiffany & Company has created the heirlooms of tomorrow; over time their window displays have been dressed with collections of beautiful silver and exquisite jewelry.
Tiffany & Co. made the world’s most important aesthetic movement silver with many of their original pieces displayed in the most important museum collections. Finding a complete and matching antique tea service is rare; even more so is finding a tea service in its original box. An antique tea service still stored in its original Tiffany & Company box would reflect the care of the heirloom over the years and most probably would be in mint condition.
Each piece of this antique tea service displays three dimensional casting and includes teapot, a coffee urn, covered sugar bowl, cream jug and waste bowl on a matching silver tray. Today one piece of these silver serving pieces is worth many times the original cost of the entire service displayed in a 19th century Tiffany window. The priceless tea service was used for many years at an afternoon tea. This Tiffany five-piece tea service was bid to $8,250 at a three-day estate auction conducted by Stuart Holman in 2008.
