Art Glass Lamp - Art Glass Shade

Art Glass Lamp with Art Glass Shade

The subject of lamps appeals to the interior designer and homeowner for three reasons—the importance of a good and conveniently arranged light; the pleasing decorative effects that are possible; and the variety and number of lamps that may be used to advantage in the home.

Lamps and lamp shades have been made of all sorts of material but those most eminently collectable were made of “art glass” at the end of the nineteenth century. Arts & Crafts artisans created everything from furniture to textiles to art glass. Examples of their craftsmanship can be seen in antique art glass lamps. Polished wood, crafted metal and exquisite colorful art glass combined to form a work of art while lighting the home.

Featured below is a magnificent example of an Art Glass Lamp and Lamp Shade. This peacock-form art glass lamp with a gorgeous art glass shade had a pre-auction estimate of $1,500-2,500.  Phone bidders from across the country pushed the art glass lamp up and up and up.  Final selling price?  $9,900!
