Antique Bedroom Furniture

antique bedroom furniture

Nineteenth century furniture designers came up with creative and space saving antique bedroom furniture storage solutions, such as the Murphy bed, or wall bed.

Another clever idea is this multipurpose piece of antique bedroom furniture. Shown is a "Combination Bedroom Suite of Furniture" from an 1890s magazine. It was said that "even in a very small room this will not be found inconvenient." The cabinet of this antique bedroom furniture, when closed, occupies the space of twenty inches from the wall and is 3 feet 7 inches wide.  When using the antique bedroom furniture washstand, the long door on the  left-hand side is opened, and the flap, which is part of the door panel, is let down; the towel rail is then brought round, and forms a support for the flap. When using it as a dressing table, the door of the center cupboard at the top is let down; and with a mirror inside, and a shaped piece of wood outside, to keep it at a slight angle, it forms a handy toilet mirror. This antique bedroom furniture design would be invaluable in a small studio apartment even today.
