A cherished teapot is one of life’s most
pleasing acquisitions, whether inherited from another tea lover or
bought for one’s self. As time goes by and the table is once again
set for tea, each pot’s distinctive shape and decoration continue to
captivate and delight. And so it is with The Collectible Teapot & Tea Calendar (a full color wall calendar published by Workman
Publishing) in which collector and connoisseur, Joni Miller,
serves up fascinating history and lore, with photographs by Martin
Brigdale.
There is nothing else like it!
The year 2007 calendar by
Miller highlights a dozen
memorable tea settings and features her favorite teapots from
calendars past. The featured
teapots are borrowed from private collections around the world, tea
company archives, famous high-end auction houses, teapot museums,
private collections in the U.S. and abroad, and the author's
own collection. The teapots are photographed in evocative tea-time
settings; reminiscent of a bygone era's proper afternoon tea. The
calendar's 19th
century teapots are displayed with period linens and
antiques. Victorian enthusiasts will especially love the settings
for the 1860 elegantly refined Staffordshire pot adorned with a
dainty pink luster design, and
the elegant 1880 Copeland smear-glazed earthenware teapot with a
pewter lid. Each month of the calendar presents not only a colorful
detailed photo of a special teapot setting, but also provides historical lore and history about
tea, teapots and the tea ceremony, not available anywhere else -
the result of unending and extensive research.
